As some of you may know, literacy tests like this were administered in the early 1960s throughout the South as a means to deny minorities and immigrants the right to vote prior to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Anyone unable to provide proof that they had attained above a 5th grade education was required to take it, which makes it literally ludicrous to think seeing some of the brightest college students in the world cant even come close to passing it. It should be noted, though, that the 64 Louisiana test these Harvard students take here is historically considered one of the more atypically difficult versions.
