As some of you will see as we reached 10,000 signatures in the petition we have had a response from the responsible government department. Firstly we would like to say, our aim is and still continues to be to reach 100,000 so we can have the topic debated. Therefore it is now more important than ever we reach our target 100,000 signatures. The response received we have seen before, as most of it is a carbon copy of the letters we received off the health minister; following letters MPs have sent on our behalf. So maybe there is a template they use for families like us, who knows? We feel this response is unacceptable and is saying that 45 young life being lost every year is acceptable, which in our eyes is disgusting. We also feel the data they are using is outdated and needs to be based on more recent research. Some of it is 4 years old. They also pin their hopes on the HPV vaccination, but as in Sorchas story and those of others such as Jess Bradfords cervical cancer awareness, they were vaccinated. The vaccination does not prevent cervical cancer, it vaccinates against HPV and only three types of HPV. There are five cancer causing types of HPV. We do not feel the response addresses what we have requested. It addresses lowering the age for population screening, but we have requested #smearondemand. So if someone under 25 requests a smear through their choice, and their informed decision, they are offered it. Yet the government do not feel they should do this or should offer this? Help us reach our target so we get the chance to have our say and give this the fair debate that is needed.
