As someone who proudly lives and calls South Hedland home, it is - TopicsExpress

As someone who proudly lives and calls South Hedland home, it is sad to see/hear the spate of recent events that are occurring in our town, in particular the recent stabbing/bike theft incident. I am assured that our Police have deployed additional resources in order to apprehend and combat such occurrences. To assist them in their efforts it is important to contact the Police at the first sign of a problem, ring early, ring often. Importantly, each and everyone of us must also take responsibility for making it as difficult as possible for offenders to get in to our homes/properties - please lock gates, secure vehicles (dont leave keys in obvious places), lock doors and lock windows and be alert to what is happening in your neighbourhood (introduce yourself to your neighbour learn about their shifts, needs, when they are home or away etc) and notify Police of any suspicious activity. It is unwise to confront offenders yourself. If there is something you are concerned about or your gut feeling is that something is not quite right, please call the South Hedland Police ph 9160 2100. If anyone wants to discuss any of this further with me, please do not hesitate to contact me direct (mob) 04399 41431. I am meeting with the Police (both at a local and regional level) and raising a number of issues with them including but not limited to: recent rise in aggravated events and what is being to address these, concerns about potential vigilante behaviour and what is being done to address this, how the community is being informed (and updated) and what is happening with initiatives such as Eyes On The Street and Neighbourhood Watch. Once I receive more detail I will be sure to let everyone know.
