As someone with European relatives (skilled and educated folks) I recall being told whats with this Nixon thing--we expect lying and corruption in our country, but not in the US..we looked up to you (at least until now)--the slippage of our national image has been going on for a long time . I think maybe the great American experiment is on life support--we let politically appointed judges who were friends of the family that won (the Bushes) steal an election, our Presidents have started wars on false information without seeking war powers resolution, treaties (like NAFTA & CAFTA) have been passed despite worker opposition and common sense, we let banking and investment institutions get away with fraud (and in fact reward them with bonuses) and now we are even facing the Senate pass the TPP without any debate or discussion. The problem is that the first things coming out of these new folks is pass the XL to make foreigners wealthy (and create competition to emerging US oil production efforts), chip away at the ACA to save employers payroll overhead (who have already reduced hours to avoid ACA payment liability--so what is the point?), create a budget crises which will lead to disabled Americans getting their social security benefits cut....to name a few.... can we maybe move forward and do something that really does help American workers, students, the disabled and retirees?
