Autism is one of the most common developmental disabilities in Ireland. Autism is life-long and the exact cause is still being investigated. At present there is no known cure for Autism; however, there are a range of interventions that can help individuals reach their full potential. Rates of children being diagnosed have quadrupled since 2002. Autism affects four times more males than females. Around 25% of individuals with Autism have an accompanying Learning Disability. Autism is not a rare disability. The numbers of individuals with ASD now exceed the combined numbers of those with Down’s syndrome, Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis.
