As the LGBTQ Roundtable gathers to meet with the National Park - TopicsExpress

As the LGBTQ Roundtable gathers to meet with the National Park Service in Washington, we have learned there is a new NPS grant funding RFP to State Historic Preservation Offices for “ensuring that all communities are reflected in the historic preservation of America”. Recognizing sites in AIDS Activism is certainly a part of the mission. To this end $500,000 has been allocated to fund grants to SHPOs. LGBTQ sites are now definitively among the ‘underrepresented’. This funding opportunity offers a good basis for building a working relationship with State Historic Preservation Offices, the recipients of the funds. The closing date for proposals is June 30th; however there is a likelihood that the funding may be repeated in the next funding cycle. In the requests from 46 states, DC and American Samoa, only Minnesota and Maryland have requested funds specifically to support recognition of LGBTQ sites. Both Maryland and Minnesota requested funding for conducting LGBTQ historic context studies.
