As the admissions frenzy is at its zenith at Delhi University, - TopicsExpress

As the admissions frenzy is at its zenith at Delhi University, with many admission seekers caught in turmoil with regard to the course and college they should opt for, I fondly recall my own days as an admission seeker more than three decades back. I had passed my 12th boards in science stream, and like many other admission seekers then, was wondering what to opt for at the DU. I was selected for B.Sc (Gen) at St. Stephens, and was about to take admission, when I heard from some seniors in the University that Economics Hons was the toughest course in DU. I dropped the idea of B.Sc (Gen) and obtained admission in Economics Hons at Hans Raj College, just because I was told that it was the toughest course those days. Today, as i reflect back, I wonder if my career path would have been any different had I opted for Stephens? Oh yes, there might have been some snobbishness in me being a Stephenian (with due apologies to my alma mater Hans Raj College). After I had graduated, Shahrukh Khan joined Hans Raj, and he too opted for Economics Hons. I am sure he would have still become a Bollywood legend had he opted for some other college and course. The same holds true for Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, who graduated in Science from Kirori Mal College in the early sixties. Yes, by all means an admission seeker should be determined to pursue a particular stream of study in a reputed college and try ones best to accomplish the same. But ultimately what shapes ones career path ahead, are ones interests and ones determination to makes ones dreams reality, of course ably assisted by a dash of luck. Would love to see any of my friends on FB countering me on the same!!.
