As the ferocious heat of summer grips the Texas landscape with its unrelenting hand, water is essential at every level of life. I have chosen three images here to emphasize the importance of every single water hole, large and small, that dot our rangelands. In photos one and two, a mourning dove and Greater Kiskadee drink from the precious liquid. In photo three a Vermillion flycatcher takes a respite after enjoying his bath in a tiny trickle of water emitting from a stock tub. The first two taken with a Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 400mm f5.6L at ISO 400 and using a manfrotto tripod. The last image was with same camera but with a Canon 1.4 extender applied to make the lens a 560mm and hand held. Except for cropping to vertical format, nothing was done to enhance these images.
