As the festivities will soon begin, if they havent already, you - TopicsExpress

As the festivities will soon begin, if they havent already, you have to understand why and know when to listen to your body. I’m not necessarily advising you to indulge late-night ice cream cravings. There is a definite set of dos and don’ts. I believe we as a society have lost touch with the true function of food. Our brains are crammed with appetites and cravings that tell us to eat when we’re not even hungry. So how do you listen to your body with all that nutritional static flying around? In my opinion, no particular food should be restricted. Anything is fair game as long as youre being mindful of the motive for eating, how much you have already eaten and will eat, what it is you are eating, and how it relates to your goals both micro- and macro-nutritiously. Lots to think about before indulging in cookies, but perhaps it will force you to think before acting upon impulse or emotion. I know it can be a challenge, whether youre fully committed or not to a healthier lifestyle, but here are a few of my strategies: *DON’T SUCCUMB TO ONLY EATING JUNK* If you crave it, it’s not because you need it necessarily; it’s because you’ve been conditioned to crave it. Attune yourself as to why you are feeling hungry. Slow down, be mindful, account for it if you do have some, savor it, and move on. Also, just because food is present doesnt mean you have to gorge yourself to make it worth your while. *DON’T ALWAYS TRUST YOUR RUMBLING TUMMY* Hunger is misleading. Its a disservice to yourself if you believe you must eat or drink anything out of obligation. Who says youll never get this chance again to eat or drink whatever item? You have to take control of your actions and trust yourself. You will falsely believe that food controls you if you dont, which will change your behaviors based on circumstance (who youre with, where youre at, how youre feeling). Again, as long as its accounted for - anything is fair game, so there shouldnt be any restriction or feelings of deprivation. *TAKE OWNERSHIP OF YOUR ACTIONS* If you want something to eat or drink, go for it. No one can tell you otherwise, but you must take responsibility for that choice and conscientiously determine if that choice will bring you closer to your personal goals. Whatever you decide, dont complain about the outcome. Again, you made the choice - accept it - and deal with it. If you dont want to deal with the consequences of a poor choice, then you know exactly what you need to do to avoid that. Be smart and sensible about your choices and with your indulgences.
