As the municipal campaigns are getting into high gear I would like - TopicsExpress

As the municipal campaigns are getting into high gear I would like to add my perception of what may happen. I think we will have a new Mayor on October 28, 2014. Due to the solid strength of voter support and name recognition I have a feeling that Councillors Aker, Diamond and Pidwerbecki have a good chance of being re-elected. As the only incumbents that truly stand up for the best interests of the taxpayers, I believe that Councillors Marimpietri, Neal and Wood should be re-elected. Incumbent Councillor Roger Bouma is not running in this election so there will be at least one new member of Council. That means that in order for changes to occur and improve the leadership on Council, Councillors Chapman, England and Sanders would have to be defeated along with the current Mayor. One of the new candidates I would like to see elected is Rick Kerr, for a local seat. Other candidates that have a chance for a local seat, as I see it, are Gail Bates, Stuart Smith and Bill Steele with John Shields also in the mix. That leaves two Regional Seats available that could produce new councillors. My guess is that Dan Carter and Brian Nicholson have a good chance of winning those seats with Debbie Grills also in the mix. As far as the race for Mayor is concerned, I have to disclose that I am supporting Rosemary McConkey, but the vote is going to be close with John Gray, John Henry, Lou DeVuono and Rosemary McConkey all receiving strong support from voters. There is no doubt that Bill Longworth and Chris Topple have been able to impress voters with their platforms so they cant be counted out either. It is going to be a very interesting election result on the evening of October 27th. I know there will be a number of readers of this post that will disagree with it and will have their own ideas of who should be supported in this election and I am sure the administrator would like to hear from them. As in all elections, the voters will have the final say. (I would like to take this opportunity to add that I respect and appreciate all candidates who have put their names forward and if their names are not mentioned here it is not meant as a slight against them. Many would also do a good job if elected to the position they are running for and I would welcome them and support them as new members of Oshawa City Council).
