As the saying goes, Its a few bad apples that spoil the bunch I know first hand that all policeman are not bad, brutal, racist, or scared of the communities they police. I used to work with some of the best, who were and still are damn good at their jobs! Many of them have close to or more than 20+ years on the force. Ive heard them personally share stories about how their department dynamic has changed and not always for the better. We used to get out and walk the beats we policed, getting to know the residents, community business owners, etc. Seems that this is not done anymore so of course that fear element plays a huge role because we have a natural proclivity to fear what we dont understand. How can you be effective in policing a community that you dont know, that you are afraid of, and intimidated by? At that point, you are simply collecting a paycheck. Darren Wilson, stated that Michael Brown was huge- Hulk Hogan like in stature well even if this were true and this young man was more disproportionate in stature, isnt it standard operating procedure (SOP) to call for back up during a stop? Why didnt he radio in for help? Why didnt he wait until another unit arrived before approaching? I have so many questions; so many things dont add up. Policing is vastly different today than what it was 15-20 years ago and I believe a lot of this brutality would decrease if officers would take the time to familiarize themselves with the communities the serve. #mysoapboxmoment #donthatethepolice
