As we approach the end of the year, Im doing a lot of reflecting - TopicsExpress

As we approach the end of the year, Im doing a lot of reflecting on my training. Ive been competing in sports practically my whole life, and most of my 20s and early 30s was spent racing mountain bikes, riding long distances and getting lots of saddle sores. I started CrossFit (and weightlifting) in 2010 at the age of 31, but I didnt start focusing on Oly until this year. Lets just say I dont recover like I used to even 4 years ago. Ive had lots of ups and down this year, including qualifying for the American Open, setting some new PRs by a kilo or a couple, and then breaking my finger. Ive had to completely retool my start position and have been working on fixing some bad habits in my lifting. In short, there are ups and downs, just like any sport. And while I still have my sights on PRs, they are fewer and further between than 4 years ago when I first started and was putting 5-10 lb on a lift every time I did it. Now that Im older (technically I can lift as a masters athlete in the sport of weightlifting), Ive started listening to my body a lot more. I know when I can go hard, but more importantly, Ive learned to push my ego aside when I know Im not feeling it. I know that sleep and good nutrition are the foundations to base my training on, not the other way around. Ive reduced my training load to 4 times a week instead of 5 or 6. My goals are to keep improving my technique and to keep the long game in mind. If I can add a few percent to my lifts and stay injury free while still doing the sport I love, thats enough for me. What are your reflections on 2014s training?
