As we enjoy this evenings cool front and while the tropics - TopicsExpress

As we enjoy this evenings cool front and while the tropics continue to stay very quiet for the time of year, 9 years ago today we were preparing for Hurricane Rita which would go down on the books as a storm that redefined our coastline and coastal population demographics...the 10-15 foot storm surge driven by more than 24 hours of tropical storm force winds and hurricane gusts inundated more than a 1000 square miles of Acadianas Coast. Rita supplanted Audrey as the most damaging storm for Southern/SW Louisiana. This loop shows Rita at its most intense point with 180mph winds and the lowest Gulf pressure to date on record at 895mb (only to be beaten by Wilma later that year at 892mb).
