As we first reported to you earlier in the week, among so many other challenges the City of Big Spring faced recently with broken water mains, they had a sewage spill near the Bell Street lift station. Here is the official press release from the city issued today (Friday) on that spill and how it was contained: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT For Immediate Release Sanitary Sewer Overflow The City of Big Spring Utilities Department repaired a faulty line on the discharge from the 2nd & Bell lift station. When the line failed, it caused sanitary sewer to fill the wet well of the lift station and overflow. The sewer followed a naturally occurring slope North. The City of Big Spring installed a bypass pump into the system prior to the faulty line to remove sanitary sewer and divert it to another manhole bypassing the damaged area and containing the flow back into the proper wastewater system for appropriate disposal. No eminent danger is expected from this occurrence due to the appropriate diversion of flow back into the sanitary sewer system and the repeated flushing of the area with water to dilute and treat the area. Upon completion of repairs the area was appropriately flushed as well as remediated to remove any residual overflow. We appreciate your patience and understanding on this matter. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact: Public Works at 264-2501. Thank You. City of Big Spring
