As we have learned of the massive investment in rebuilding the former Lido at Ynysangharad war memorial Park Potypridd. The Rebuild the Knap Lido group are looking for support from local people and their friends and families to get our very own Lido rebuilt at The Knap. To do this we need to heap pressure on the local Vale Council to achieve this goal It is going to be a very hard slog but if and when we win it will be worth it in the end. It was a jewel in the crown of Barry and district and it even received an offer from The Dow Corning Chemical Company of £1million (6 Million in todays value) to refurbish The Lido approximately 18 years ago but was turned down and refused by The Vale Council at the time. This was a severe blow to the people of Barry as they were accused by the council of neglecting to use the facility which resulted in its closure in 1996. Yes the people of Barry and The vale neglected to use it for an extremely valid reason and that reason was The Vale Council neglected to properly maintain The Lido resulting in it decay. The people felt it was becoming dangerous with out proper care and attention. They than started to stay away from The Knap Lido resulting in the council stating via Council Official Rob Quick that it should be demolished and its future use would lend itself sympathetically to a development of housing or high rise apartments It now seems inevitable and imminent that with the council selling off property all over the Vale that this former Lido site will soon end up in the hands of the developers. This must be stopped at all costs We at The Rebuild The Knap Lido Group hope you will support us in getting this former Icon rebuilt as soon as possible. If Rhodda Cynon Taf Council can do it in Pontypridd then so can The Vale Council. Please like our page and please support us.
