As we mark today, the 100th Anniversary of the start of the First - TopicsExpress

As we mark today, the 100th Anniversary of the start of the First World War, the Museum was asked to commemorate this with a window display in the Wishing Well Shop in Sandgate Road, Folkestone. (We have been told that this is the only shop in Folkestone commemorating this very sad anniversary). You might think this a bit odd, that a Battle of Britain Museum, renowned for the Worlds largest collection of Battle of Britain artefacts is asked to commemorate the First World War, but it should not be forgotten that the Museum holds and displays one of the largest collections (thousands of exhibits, large and small) of First World War artefacts on show in South East England. Not only covering the first Blitz on Britain with air attacks by Gothas and Zeppelins, but also items relating to trench and naval warfare. The window display was completed on Saturday night and we hope that anyone passing the shop will stop, pause and spare a thought for the millions of young men and women who did not return home....
