As we preach the riches of Christ, God works out his purpose for the whole church. What is God’s grand plan for his church? Read verses 10-11.“His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.” These verses open our minds to understand what is being done in the spiritual world. God is showing his work to the angels through the church. We cannot see the angels, but they see us. In fact, they closely watch us to learn what God is doing. As they see people being saved and God’s wisdom being displayed, we can almost hear the good angels say, “Wow!” and demons scream, “Boo!” The word “manifold” means “many-colored” and was used to describe flowers, crowns, embroidered cloth and woven carpets. God displayed his glory and wisdom through the creation of the world. God has been displaying his manifold wisdom through the re-creation of his people. He does this according to his eternal purpose that was accomplished in Christ Jesus.
