As we´re now familiar with- a new study reveals a higher population density of tigers in Sumatra than anyone dared hope. Although the International Union for Conservation of Nature still lists the Sumatran tiger as “critically endangered," a combination of good science and a zero-tolerance policy against poaching appears to have given the big cat a new purchase on life. The only ones who might be unhappy with this news are the guys who recently became trapped in a tree for five days by a streak of tigers after the men had killed a tiger cub caught in one of their snares. One might say these big cats also had a zero-tolerance policy against poaching. (And yes, a group of tigers is called a ‘streak’.) Nature World News
