As we work on the documentary on John Culhanes life and work , I am listening to a recording of a great interview my father did with Sean Connery on my birthday in 1990 or so, when he was a roving editor for the Readers Digest and lamenting today, as I did then, that by spending too much time at the high school I was teaching in answering inane questions about protocol or something for five minutes that put me in a traffic jam and thus caused me to be a half hour late, I missed meeting my favorite actor (who had invited me to say hello at his apartment in Century City before he left). Another opportunity never availed itself (I did later meet Timothy Dalton at a party I sang at at Cubby Broccolis house and had a great conversation, but Sean was the biggest influence on me). Life is funny that way... the missed opportunities that a few minutes here and there can turn into.
