As you are aware, the Government is currently asking people to have their say on compensation arrangements for households blighted by #HS2 along Phase 1 of the HS2 route. The deadline for responses is midnight this Wednesday. The Government is having to undertake this consultation because we won in court earlier this year with the judge ruling that previous decisions on compensation were so unfair as to be unlawful. The Government has brought out revised plans for dealing with this issue which would, at best, help around 2% of households impacted by blight. Yes you read that right-just 2% being helped with everyone else left to suffer years of uncertainty and worry. Responding to these plans is therefore vital-regardless of whether you live in a community on Phase 1 or Phase 2 of the route, or indeed anywhere else in the country. If we dont push for change to compensation rules now, any community in the country impacted by large infrastructure projects could be treated unfairly. If you want to find out more about the consultation please click on our dedicated web page on the issue. So please make sure you and everyone in your household responds to this consultation. If you can encourage friends, family members and work colleagues to do likewise, that would be even better. Making your voice heard could not be easier. You can 1. Use our online tool to respond direct to the consultation. hs2actionalliance.org/property-compensation-consultation-2013/ 2. Download and print off our preprepared letter, insert your details and send to the Freepost address shown (no stamp required) 3. Email the following message with your name and address to 2013hs2propertyconsultation@dialoguebydesign (please DONT email us with the message) Dear Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Transport Government wants to build roads, railways, wind farms and power stations for the good of the UK. But this leads to some individuals bearing an unfair share of the cost of these projects – through their home losing value overnight or being unable to move house or re-mortgage (as they normally would). This is unjust and needs to be put right. My response to the consultation you are holding on blight for HS2 is as follows: Answer to Question 3 – the hardship rules should be dropped – these rules are about personal matters that are unrelated to the blight and losses being suffered. Answer to Question 6 – any voluntary purchase scheme should go beyond 120m. Answer to Questions 7 and 3 – I support a route-wide Property Bond, like HS2AA’s, that goes beyond the area next to the line (EHS has applied up to 1.1km) to reduce the blight and help more people. Please do the right thing for the thousands of people going through the misery of blight from HS2. Lets all make sure the Government hear from us before Wednesday on this important issue. Thanks HS2AA
