As you can imagine, we talk about this HOT BUTTON issue all the time with family, friends and colleagues. Some feel that there is nothing written in stone about a vaccine schedule. It is more about convenience for pediatricians. We think there might be some truth to this. Think about it..... Countries around the world use vastly different vaccine schedules. This implies that the schedule is not necessarily about health but perhaps politics, money, and pediatricians convenience. As you may know, the US gives the most vaccines in the first year of life of any nation (26 doses of 9 vaccines), while nations like Sweden and Japan give less than half that number. Here is yet another million dollar question: If our vaccine schedule is really about scientifically proven need, efficacy, and safety, then why is there be such widely varying schedules and outcomes?
