As you gain more experience in life, you come to realize that competition isnt about beating the hell out of someone else, its about challenging yourself to rise to your own level of talent. Talented people often never achieve anywhere near their true potential because they never put themselves into positions where you are forced to rise or die. Competing as an athlete, committing to a book project, taking a job that scares you, attending a speaking school or opening your own business are all guaranteed ways to force you to grow or fail. Competition isnt really about one person putting another down; its about one person willing do to the work a hundred others arent willing to do. Your potential is a terrible thing to waste, but unless you force yourself to grow, who you are and what you could be will never be realized and that is one loss you never want to accept.
