As you may know, last week my (Rev. Don Lewis) photo appeared in an article about Muti killings in Africa (designntrend/articles/34945/20150114/witch-doctors-banned-tanzania-albino-killings.htm). The article appeared in the Design and Trend feature published by Fashion Times, Co. The article discussed the Tanzanian governments move to outlaw all traditional healers, or “Witch Doctors”, on the basis that some rogue Witch Doctors allegedly participate in the murder of albinos for purposes of black magic. The article led with a prominent photograph of me officiating a ritual. Apparently I am one of the more recognizable Witches in the world and my photo often appears in articles to which I am in no way connected, but this is usually innocuous and generally does not bother me. In this case however the article was concerning to me both as Head of Correllian Studies at Witch School and as Chancellor of the Correllian Tradition because both the School and the Tradition have members in Tanzania who might be endangered by the implied connection between the organizations and Muti inspired violence. Obviously neither I nor any organization I am involved with supports Muti or any other violent activities, but the article could have been taken to suggest otherwise. I am pleased to say that Fashion Times, Co., has now removed my photo, issued an apology, and published a retraction emphasizing that I am in no way linked to the atrocious practice of Muti. I want to thank everyone who supported me in this, especially those who took direct action. Our Witch Schoolers and Correllians in Tanzania are safer for this. I also want to thank Fashion Times, Co., for doing the right thing and making this retraction.
