Asalamwualaikum, everyone! First of all, Id like to wish my fellow candidates the best of luck for the next three days, and may Allah help purify our intentions and guide us towards whats best for not just us, but more importantly whats right for the community at large inshaAllah. As a candidate for VP Social Advancement, I understand this is a unique position of responsibility and leadership because it requires working for two different directorships, Community Affairs and Students for World Justice, to engage and educate students with a multitude of issues at a local and global scale, and I believe I have the perspective and experience to guide both committees, and also respecting and encouraging future directors creative independence and insight. If elected, I plan to: •Expand reach of our events by more efficient advertising and making use of social media tools like Twitter to start conversations about social justice issues to raise awareness and encourage inclusiveness •Bridging ideas between the two directorships to create well-rounded platforms for topics so that we can think globally, but take action locally •Encourage more dialogue based events; social justice activism is all about sharing ideas and stories as a collective so that we may all learn and be inspired by one another •Work with various campus groups and off-campus organizations and community leaders to make our efforts more sustainable; social advancement requires resource-sharing and collaborations with multidisciplinary networks, and that insight is something I enthusiastically bring to the team. Working in social justice development for the last few years has taught me various lessons of patience, persistence and hard work, and the understanding that social justice isnt achieved within a day, or even a month, but rather that its a process of many efforts and obstacles.
