Asego Adams Ectopic Pregnancy Ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy condition in which the fertilized egg develops in the fallopian tube and not in the uterus. It is also known as tubal pregnancy. This condition is different from normal pregnancy. In such pregnancy, the fertilized egg develops in the fallopian tube and not in the uterus. Other possible factors include medication of diethylstilbestrol, development of congenital abnormalities in fallopian tubes, use of birth control pills and development of tissue outside the endometrial cavity. Symptoms of Ectopic pregnancy The signs of fallopian pregnancy show up in the second trimester. Even in the presence of tubal pregnancy, some women are relaxed from the symptoms. In some cases, the pregnancy is detected resulting from the rapture of fallopian tube or after undergoing scanning of pregnancy. Pain in one side of the abdomen - Women may have pain only in one side of the abdomen. This type of abdomen pain is generally severe and continues for longer duration. Bleeding - Vaginal bleeding caused by tubal pregnancy is different from the menstrual period. The discharge of blood is generally dark red in color. Pain in the tip of shoulder - Note that shoulder tip pain is a symptom of fallopian pregnancy. The internal bleeding weakens the functions of nerves and muscles of the body. This results an external pain in the shoulder tip which is an indication of tubal pregnancy. Pain in bowel - Women having a tubal pregnancy experience pain while passing urine or stools. Diarrhea and vomiting - The pregnancy symptoms are also often followed with diarrhea and vomiting How to Diagnosis of tubal pregnancy Diagnosis is important in ectopic pregnancy. The physician starts the diagnosis through examination of the internal reproductive organs and other external symptoms. Some effective diagnosis procedures of ectopic pregnancy include testing of hormone and HCG levels. In case of suspicion of a possible ectopic pregnancy, the doctor may feel a tender mass during the pelvic examination. If there are chances of such pregnancies, the physician proceeds with Transvaginal ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy. What Are The Treatment Options There is zero chance of the survival of baby in an ectopic pregnancy. Treatment options are available if the type of pregnancy is detected before the rapture of fallopian tube. Acute monitoring – The internal reproductive system is closely monitored to avoid complications Methotrexate medication – This drug is medicated in the form of injection to stop the growth of egg Surgery – A minor surgery in the abdomen to terminate the fertilized egg and tissue When to rush for immediate medical attention Collapse is the complicated symptom of tubal pregnancy. This condition results due to the tearing of fallopian tubes. This causes severe bleeding and can turn out as life threatening. Pregnant women can assume the possibility of such pregnancy and need urgent health care in case of: Having a sudden and severe pain in the abdominal Having diarrhea and feeling sick Turning pale and increased heart rate Side effects of fallopian tube or tubal pregnancies Women who experienced such pregnancies have the chances of having side effects, both physically and emotionally. Common side effect includes sleeping problems, loss of appetite, emotional distress, problems in future pregnancies and possibilities of frequent miscarriage. Ectopic pregnancies sound shocking and scary. In this pregnancy, there are zero chances for the baby to survive. This case of pregnancy can lead to health complications and requires immediate medical attention. It is possible to detect the type of pregnancy in the very initial stage. Most often, doctors detect the case of ectopic pregnancy by 8th week of pregnancy.
