Ashram Diary: Meditation 7 This is a story that I remember from my 4th grade. It makes real sense now. There lived in west, a painter who wanted to paint his master piece. Jesus and Judas- that will be my theme, he decided. Two models he needed, for meeting whom he embarked upon a journey. After two days of travel, he met a man of angelic countenance. He requested him to be his model for Jesus. The man readily agreed. The delighted painter drew Jesus to his satisfaction. Once the painting was over he offered some money to his model. The man declined and replied that it was his good fortune to be selected for a Jesus painting. Both were pleased. They thanked each other and parted ways. The painter resumed his journey to find his Judas. He wandered in towns, cities and villages. He went to mountains, plains and shores. All ended in vain. He came across none who even remotely resembled the picture he had in mind. Years rolled on without luck but he was determined not to give up. It was the eleventh year. One morning outside a church, he came across a beggar. Unkempt hair, shallow dark circled eyes, guilt ridden face, yellow complexion, overgrown dirty beard, smelly clothes- he was picture perfect! Finally he found the man he was in search for. He explained the beggar his plight and requested him to be his model. The beggar thought this to be his opportunity and demanded that he be rewarded with gold coins. A bargain ensued and the desperate painter struck the deal at whopping ten gold coins. Nevertheless, the painter drew Judas to his satisfaction. He was overjoyed. The dream is realised. He has finished his master piece! He thanked his model profusely and gave him the promised sum. As he was bade good bye, the beggar asked him, Sir, dont you remember me? The surprised painter replied, Arent we meeting for the first time? I was in search for a model like you for ten long years. Had we met before, my wait wouldnt have been this long! The beggar said, I was your Jesus. Reflection: Man is but a reflection of his mind. Saint and sinner are the expressions it.
