Asia Highway linking Kawthoung-Myeik with Myawady-Tamu-Imphal to emerge in 2018 Socio-economic development of local national races in Myeik district which is situated at the southern part of the country calls for not only smooth and speedy transport and but also local and foreign investments in trading and industrial sector as it is a major driving force for economic growth to keep pace with other countries. Now, Dawei, Myeik and Kawthoung can be reached from Yangon by road, rail, boat and air at all time.As people can travel from Yangon to Mandalay by rail, road and air, Public Works is carrying out road works along Imphal road for enabling local people from Mandalay, Monywa, Yargyi, Kalewa, Kalay, Tamu and Moreh to travel from one place to another. With the emergence of inter-district and townshipto-township roads and bridges in Taninthayi Region and establishment of Dawei deep-sea port special economic zone, Myeik deep-sea port development zone, Kyaukphyar economic zone, Bokpyin deep-sea port, Karathuri deep-sea port special economic zone, Htwe-khwee trading camp and Mawtaung trading camp, there has been a growing interest from foreign investors in the country. While foreign investors eye economic opportunities of the country, plans are underway for an Asian Highway that links between Imphal of Manipur Province in India to Bangkok of Thai land via Kalay , Monywa, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mawlamyine, Dawei, Myeik, Mawtaung and Parachut (Pakyut) to be commissioned into service in 2018. Arrangements are being made by Yangon Taxi Air Bus to operate an Air Bus service between Myeik and Imphal. Yangon Region Minister U Aung Khin envisaged that The Myeik-Imphal Air Bus service would contribute to a tripartite economic development of Myanmar, Thailand and India.
