Ask not what your Country can do for you, but what you can do for - TopicsExpress

Ask not what your Country can do for you, but what you can do for your Country (JFK). The vast majority of Americans used to take this statement seriously. Volunteer service organizations were filled with men and women who faithfully served, and gave of themselves. The school PTA meetings were filled to overflowing with involved and engaged parents. The same can certainly be said for the church in America. I well remember a time in which servants abounded within the church. It was a very rare thing for churches to be deficient of willing servants. There has been a great shift in our Country. There has been a massive changing of mind-set. Today, service organizations must plead for people to step up and serve. Teachers, and school administrators, all over America lament too little engagement by many parents in their childs education. As for churches, meaningful and needed ministries are either shuttered, or may as well be, due to a lack of willing servants within the body. Church leaders are stifled in their leadership due to the fact that there arent enough servants to get it done. Sadly, those who posses the heart to serve ... and do serve, begin to feel overwhelmed; they become tired and weary. By and large we live in a day in which the majority are, simply stated, selfish with their time, talent, and treasure. Whats in it for ME? What are you willing to do for ME? How do you intend to meet MY needs? This is the prevalent attitude among so many these days. Why have I addressed this, you may be wondering? I do so because this is another area in which the church can shine a bright light within our communities. While willing, giving, joyful, servant-hearted people is a glaring shortage in every other place ... it ought not be so in the church! What difference might we, the church, make in, and upon, our community if we were filled with people chomping at the bits to serve?! Indeed, what if.
