Asking God’s blessing on public meetings is a cherished American - TopicsExpress

Asking God’s blessing on public meetings is a cherished American tradition that is now in jeopardy. This practice is at risk because of two citizens from Greece, New York, who claim to be “offended” by prayers given to open their town’s council meetings. For years, the Greece Town Council has allowed volunteers from the community to begin its meetings with a prayer. Some people chose to pray before the meetings. Some chose not to. But the platform was open to all. But rather than respect the volunteers’ heartfelt prayers for divine guidance, the two “offended” citizens and Americans United for Separation of Church and State filed a lawsuit to end this cherished practice. Alliance Defending Freedom and our Allied Attorneys appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court on November 6 to defend the Town of Greece — and all Americans who want to pray in a manner consistent with their faith — in order to preserve public prayer in America. How you can make a difference You and all other citizens in cities and towns across this nation should have the same freedom to pray as our Founding Fathers did when they drafted our Constitution’s Bill of Rights. If you believe in prayer and the value of praying publicly as part of legislative gatherings, please show your support by giving to defend prayer and religious freedom. Such fierce opposition to prayer runs counter to centuries of American tradition, which has encouraged both private citizens and public officials to pray according to their beliefs: The Founding Fathers prayed publicly while drafting our Constitution’s Bill of Rights. Prayer is included as part of the presidential inauguration. Public prayers are offered at every level of government throughout the country. The last time the Supreme Court ruled on this prayer issue was in 1983. The High Court affirmed America’s long-standing practice of opening public meetings with prayer. Now, after 30 years, the Court has the opportunity to reaffirm this tradition. Your support is needed today, so we have the necessary resources to fight and win similar battles all across the nation...alliancedefendingfreedom.org/page/public-prayer
