During the employment, Mary work from 8.30 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. Monday through Friday and she also did work overtime. Though Mary Scroggins is a skillful and hardworking employee but she is also an active and devote member of her church. After 6 months Mary proved to be a capable to a royal employee in this reason she got promotion. In income tax period Mary’s supervisor began preparing overtime schedule on Saturday’s. But Mary would not work on Saturday because of her religious belief to stop work before sundown Friday. 1. What social issues are raised in this case? Ans: Religious issue whether Mary Scroggins should choose work over religion. Her supervisor wanted to Mary work in Saturday but her religious belief required her to stop work before sundown Friday. 2. What pluralistic interest groups are involved, and what is the nature of their interest? Ans: Pluralistic interest groups are involved. Such as: 1. Mary Scroggins, her interest was religious that she needs to stop her work before sundown Friday. 2. Supervisor interest was overtime work of Mary Scroggins on Saturday. 3. The Church interest was Mary Scroggins activity and devout for Church. The nature of their interest given below: • In this case, Mary Scroggins interest is her religious issue. Because her religious belief required her to stop work before sundown Friday. • In this case, the supervisor interest is skillful and competent work of Mary Scroggins. 3. As Mary’s supervisor what would you do now? Ans: I would not force her because it goes against her civil rights. Furthermore, I would support her because it would work as a motivation for a hard working employee like Mary. The Ban on Imported Automobiles During the 1960’s the domestic steel industry faced a big financial crisis because of increasing proportion of imported automobiles in the United States. About 20,000 steelworkers lost their jobs and domestic steel industry experienced low profit margins. On January 1, 1970 a large branch works of one of the nation’s top steel producers took initiative by banning imported automobiles inside the plant. But if necessary, the company will provide transportation inside the plant The production workers were not affected because they parked their cars in a company lot outside the main plant area. 1. Apprise the company decision –and union agreement-in terms of pluralism. Select the major investment groups in this decision and identify the role investments of each. Ans: The company decision of banning imported automobiles and union agreement regarding the company decision benefits the domestic steel industry, the automobile company workers as well as the domestic economy of the United States. The major investments groups in this decision are the domestic steel industry and vendors etc. The role investment of the automobile company is to take such initiatives on a major level and vendor’s role is to appreciate such initiatives. 2. Was the public interest served in this decision? Explain. Ans: The public interest was not served regarding the banning decision because the application of such decision would bring monopoly market where the general mass would have a lack of purchase options.
