Assistant Secretary General Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami A renowned Politician, Writer, Orator, Intellectual, Journalist and Islamic thinker Mohammad kamaruzzaman was born in Sajbarkhila, a Village of Sherpur District on the 4th of July 1952. His father Alhaj Mvi. Insan Ali Sarkar was a Businessman. Mohammad Kamaruzzaman started his education in his Native Village. He completed his Primary education from Charkumri Government Primary School and passed Secondary School Certificate Examination in 1967 from Sherpur G.K.M Institute. He passed the higher Scondary School Certificate Examination in 1972, Bachelor of Arts B.A in 1974 and Master of Arts in Journalism in 1976. In his School he was all through 1st boy and awarded with Residential Scholarship in Class Eight from Sherpur G.K.M Institute. He passed the S.S.C Examination securing 1st Division with 4 letters (A+) and was awarded residential Scholarship. He was champion in the debate, literature and cultural competition of Jamalpur Ashek Mahmood College. He passed the B.A Examination with distiuction. He did his M.A from Dhaka University in Journalism. Mohammad Kamaruzzaman started his professional career with Journalism, While in College he worked as a stringer of a National daily. He joind as an Executive Editor of Monthly Dhaka Digest in January1980. Afterwords he took the charge of well circulated Weekly Sonar Bangla as it’s Editor in January 1981 and till today he is doing the same job. He also joined the Daily Sangram in November 1983 and served as the Executive Editor till 1993. Mohammad Kamaruzzaman is also a good writer. He has written a numbers books, five of those were published. Moreover, many articls of Mr. Zaman were published in different newspapers and Journals on Politics and International Affairs. Mohammad Kamaruzzaman has a bright and brilliant career in the student Movement of Bangladesh. He was the Organizing Secretary of Bangladesh Islamic Students movement in 1972, was President of Dhaka city unit in 1974-77, Secretary General of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir in 1977. He was elected as the President of Islami Chhatra Shibir in May 1978 and re-elected for the session 1978-79. He was the chief organizer of the International Islamic Youth camp at Mauchak scout camp in 1979. Mohammad Kamaruzzaman joined Jamaat-e-Islami city unit in October 1979 and took oath as Rukun (member) on the 16th December 1979. He was appointed as the Joint Secretary of Dhaka City Jamaat-e-Islami during 1981-82 and Publicity Secretary of Central Jamaat 1983-1991. From 1992 he has been working as the Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. He played a vital role as the member of Jamaat-e-Islami political and Liaison committee in the movement of restoration of democracy in Bangladesh from 1983-90 and in the movement for Caretaker Govt. during 1993-95. He is a member of political committee of BJI. He is also in charge of diplomatic relations. He played a vital role as a member of central liaison committee to restore democracy in the country. He worked hard to form the 4-party alliance. It can be mentioned here that four-Party Alliance comprised of BNP, Jamaat, Jatio Party (N.F.) and IOJ contested the 2001 general election unitedly and has formed the government with a landslide victory. His Party Jamaat-e-Islami had two Cabinet Ministers in that coalition government of Bangladesh. He is incharge of the International Affirs Committee of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. As a social worker Mohammad Kamaruzzaman has been playing remarkable role. He established one Dakhil Madrasah and Yatim Khana at Bajitkhila local area of Sherpur. He is the Chairman of the Madrasah Committee and Chairman of Sherpur Darus Salam Trust. He is Associated with many welfare Organizations. Also he is a member National Press Club and was also member of Dhaka Union of Journalists, elected member of the Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists for the term 1985-86. He visited many Countries of the World and participated in a good number of International conferences, seminars and workshops, like wise:- Visited Saudi Arabia and performed Hajj in 1976, Nepal to attend SIMI Conference in 1978, India to attend SIMI Conference in 1978, Saudi Arabia to attend WAMY conference in 1978, Pakistan to attend Asian Islamic conference in July 1978, Thailand breaks Journey and met with Ibrahim Qureshi the then Muslim Leader and scholar, UK to participate Federation of Students Islamic society (FOSIS) annual Conference in 1979, Hong Kong to attend Asian Students Association Conference in 1978, Saudi Arabia as a member of 14 members delegation of Journalists in 1984. Iran- in 1984 he was invited by the Government to visit Iran. During this visit he traveled Tehran, Qome, and Mashhad, Siraj, Ispahan, Semnan and different province. Pakistan- as a member of JI good will visit to SAARC countries. Dubai Break Journey. Thailand as a guest speaker of South East Asian Dawah Council in 1987. India- to attend students’ conference as a guest speaker. Saudi Arabia- 1987 to meet important personalities in the Government, News papers and WAMY office. Kolkata, Maldah, Delhi, Agra of India SIMI Conference in 1988. USA to participate as a guest speaker at the ICNA Conference in 1989 Canada as a guest of ICNA in 1989. UK to attend YMO Conference in 1989 France to attend Islamic Forum Europe Conference in 1989 Iran as state guest in 1990 to attend revolution day programme and International Seminar in Iran. Pakistan, India, Nepal as one of the member of a high level delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami under the leadership of Acting Ameer of JIB, late Abbas Ali Khan. Japan to attend the Conference of Islamic Mission Japan in several times. Malaysia to attend the Conference of Islamic Forum Malaysia and PAS annual Conference and International Seminar 7 times. Singapore to Participate the Conference of Dawatul Islam Singapore. South Korea to attend the Conference of Dawatul Islam South Korea. Australia to attend the Conference of Islamic Center. Indonesia to attend the Conference of Islamic Center. Italy, U.K. and Germany to participate Islamic Forum Europe Regional Conference. Vatican City to call on foreign Affairs minister of Pope John Pall. Turkey to attend the function to Celebrate Istanbul Victory day. USA to participate US Democratic party Convention in 1996 and this time he visited different States of USA including New York, Washington D.C. Rode Island, Connecticut, Newjersy, Maryland, Virginia, Detroit, Los Angeles and Chicago. Yemen to participate a four day workshop on the development of political parties and democracy. He was only one Instructor from Asia. Also visited Brunei, Bahrain, Kuwait and U.A.E. in different occasions. Kuala Terenganu State Capital of Malaysia to attend a Regional Seminar on the prospect of Islamic movement. He presented on paper at the Seminars in 2001. USA and UK to attend the Conferences and Seminars in 2001. Philippine to attend a seminar on the parliamentary oversight at Manila in 2001. Singapore and Malaysia in the month of September 2002 to attend a seminar and conference. He is married to Miss Nurun Nahar in 1977 and blessed with five sons.
