Asthma and Allergies-PART 3 Since asthma is closely associated with allergies, it makes sense to control your allergies to help manage asthma. In the following posts, we’ll provide some recommendations to reduce your exposure to allergens. For dust mite allergens: *Encase your mattress and pillow in a special dust-proof cover. You can also wash the pillow each week in hot water (above 130F to kill the mites). *Wash the sheets and blankets on your bed each week in hot water. *Reduce indoor humidity to below 60 percent (ideally between 30-50 percent). *Try not to sleep on cloth-covered cushions. *Remove carpets from your bedroom. *Keep stuffed toys out of the bed and wash the toys weekly in hot water or cooler water with detergent and bleach.
