Asylum seekers arriving in Australia by boat have been transferred - TopicsExpress

Asylum seekers arriving in Australia by boat have been transferred to Manus Island of PNG last year. Asylum seekers who come to Australia by boat without a visa have been refused settlement in Australia; instead have been sent to the detention facility on Manus Island, if they were found to be legitimate refugees. This may have been successful in slowing the number of asylum seekers arriving by boat in Australia but how has that benefited or disadvantaged PNG ? What are the advantage or disadvantage of accepting these refugees or asylum seekers to Manus who will eventually be resettled in PNG,if their refugee status is found to be genuine?
