At 10 AM, a line of thunderstorms was developing along and ahead of a cold front across extreme northern Kentucky. This line is expected to continue to develop as it pushes southeast toward the southern Appalachians. The storms are expected to affect the mountains in the 2-4pm timeframe, and move quickly southeast across the rest of the area in the 4pm-7pm timeframe. Late afternoon to early evening thunderstorms coverage should be the greatest over the mountains and extreme NE Georgia with a second discrete band across the Interstate 77 corridor of North Carolina and the upstate of South Carolina. Damaging winds are the chief threat. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is also likely with the storms and possibly some hail. Here are the SPC outlook Graphics for today:
