At 11:30 a.m., Principal Ms Janet Anderson announced that SPHS is currently under a soft lockdown. At this moment, an official time of release is unclear, as all students and teachers on campus have been instructed to stay inside classrooms until notified. Her statement: Today, we received a communication about potential suspicious activity concerning South Pasadena High School. There is no relationship between this issue and the incident that started our school year. Today’s communication was not time-specific, and the South Pasadena Police Department and school officials do not believe there is an imminent issue. However, we are erring on the side of caution and continue to work with the South Pasadena Police Department. In the spirit of ultimate caution, we are placing the school under lockdown while we determine if an early release time is appropriate. We will follow up with another call as soon as possible whether or not we plan to release students before the end of the school day. This is considered a soft lockdown. Please model calm behavior and continue teaching that will be best for kids.
