At 11am today we told you about Buster and how his owner was very ill in hospital. Busters owner Derek was in the middle of chemo and radiotherapy for a very invasive mouth and throat cancer. His son Ken and his girlfriend were looking after his beloved 10 year old Lab Buster. They thought he was pining for Derek when he seemed sad, but late on Friday they realised it wasnt just that, Buster was very ill and they rushed him to the emergency vets. Buster needed life-saving surgery to remove his spleen. As far as Ken knew, Buster was insured - but it was only after the op they discovered it must have lapsed when Derek had fallen ill. The unexpected bill was in excess of £3k and they really didnt want the worry of this to add to Dereks stress - they knew he couldnt afford it financially or emotionally. They just didnt have the money and things looked very bleak. They were told by the vet hospital that they had to pay at least £1,000 before they could take Buster home so they put it on a credit card and signed to agree to pay the rest in seven days with no plan of how to do that. They said to them you wouldnt be able to take the goods home at the shops if you didnt pay, so why would it be any different at the vets? Sarah phoned tiny ancient charity Tailwaggers Club Trust for help and the Just Giving appeal was launched today and you amazing people, 83 of you so far, have been complete and utter superstars. The kindness of strangers who obviously feel the bond of the love of dogs has been inspirational. Sara just emailed to say; We are so overwhelmed. We just cant believe it. Ive been crying reading everyones comments. I cant believe people that we dont know have been so generous! And I seriously cant believe someone has just donated £500. Phenomenal. Is there any way we can thank each person. Buster has perked up a little and he is thoroughly enjoying all the fuss. He managed to eat a little food tonight, which is positive. Were taking him for a check up at the vets tomorrow. So we are hoping everything goes ok! We saw Derek tonight and he cannot believe the support were receiving. Thank you so much to you and everyone that has donated! People can say a lot of negative things about social media... but you guys can change the world when you pull together. Well done everyone who shared and cared, youre wonderful.
