At 4:30 this morning I awoke to hearing vehicles nearby. At 7 I knew why. Its opening day of Canada Goose season and the parking lot here attracts the birds in large flocks. When the sound of birdshot was heard zipping through the trees above my tent I grabbed the dog and the truck and went to inform the hunters of my presence. They told me they were good friends of the festival owner and would take care not to fire in my direction. Liars. Maybe not about the friend part but theyre still shooting this way when there are birds coming in from my direction. From this far away (and down the hill) its not a particular danger to me but there will be no running around for Django today. Poor guy is a bit of a nervous wreck with all the gunfire. We will be seeking means of entertainment away from camp today.
