At 4:35 pm today the Golden Pantry in Bishop was robbed by a black male reportedly telling the clerk he was armed with a handgun and demanded money and other items. What he didnt count on was 1) Oconee County citizens and our FB friends seeing him and 2) Deputy Bill Parks being right around the corner at the time. After fleeing the store, he was seen changing clothes off Union Church Rd and trying to make his getaway by getting a nearby resident to give him a ride. Deputy Bill Parks saw the suspect and took him into custody without incident. Items taken in the robbery and clothing worn during the robbery was recovered. No, we dont discuss how much money he got or what else he got. That kind of information only encourages the weak minded to think they can get away with it. Suffice it to say, it wasnt worth a 10 year mandatory minimum sentence. CID and patrol deputies are following up on some additional information. The armed robber is reportedly from Athens, name and other information will follow at a later time. No one was hurt during the robbery or apprehension. Again, a good citizen was of invaluable assistance in allowing us to make an arrest moments after the crime was committed, in addition to top notch law enforcement work by Deputy Parks and the rest of the shift. Happy Thanksgiving....
