At 6:45 of this video, Claire Huxtable says give her aspirin. She is recommending that for her daughter, who has a febrile illness, which is most likely influenza. Although aspirin is appropriate for the relief of fever, this patient (Rudy Huxtable) is a 5-year-old child. The use of aspirin in a child with influenza is contraindicated, due to the association of aspirin usage in children with influenza and the development of Reyes syndrome. Reye syndrome is a rare form of acute encephalopathy and fatty infiltration of the liver that tends to occur after some acute viral infections, particularly when salicylates (e.g., aspirin) are used. Hence, during an outbreak of influenza, aspirin is contraindicated in children with respiratory symptoms or fever. youtu.be/WCH-wqi5HUs
