At 89 years old he shows no sign of retirement anytime soon, “There are so many sounds I still want to make, so many things I haven’t yet done.” King is a vegetarian but has lent his music to fast food chain commercials like McDonalds and Wendys. His music has appeared on over 53 movie soundtracks. King has been married twice and in his second wedding in 1958 Reverend C.L. Franklin presided over the service, Aretha Franklin’s father. B.B. King has released over 60 albums through his career and at least 18 of them are live albums. The 2002 collaborative album “Riding with the King” featuring King and Eric Clapton has sold more than 2 million copies and won them a Grammy. Over his career he has received 16 Grammy’s, a Presidential Medal of Freedom, honorary degrees from Yale and Brown, the keys to the cities of Utica, NY and Portland, Maine and a park named after him in Portugal. Rolling Stone magazine has named B.B. King as the Number 3 guitarist of all time in 2003 and Number 6 in 2011. He was a privately licensed pilot for a majority of his life but when he got into his 80’s his insurance company asked him to not fly anymore. B.B.
