At EI Alamein A warm sirocco blows at El Alamein it covers the tracks of conflict and pain where those that stood against tyranny forged for themselves their own destiny by holding hope when hope was lost by refusing to yield whatever the cost the spirit of those who won that victory shines bright in my brothers, sisters and me all those that have traveled a troublesome path and reached the end with the ability to laugh so we smile in the sun, a warm breeze on our face of bitterness or sorrow there is not a trace in the past we leave our conflict and pain my friends, we stopped them at El Alamein Author Notes During the Second World War there were two major battles at the Egyptian costal city of EI Alamein. At The First Battle of EI Alamein (1-27 July 1942) the Allies halted the previously unstoppable German advance. Before this “blitzkrieg” had swept aside all that stood in its path. This action denied the German Forces use of the Suez Canal, which would have been a deciding factor in the war. The Second battle of EI Alamein (23 October – 4 November 1942) Allied forces broke the Axis line and forced them all the way back to Tunisia. It was this battle of which Winston Churchill famously said "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end, but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning." After the war, he wrote: "Before Alamein we never had a victory. After Alamein, we never had a defeat." During the last year I have met so manny people that have faced adversity, which has more often than not been caused by tyrants. I have been amazed by there ability to come out the other side of this experience and flourish. It is this ability to come through a personal battle and succeed afterwords that reminds me of Churchill’s quotes about EI Alamein. I am currently beginning the second stage of my escape from abuse. Stage one was getting myself out, stage two is untangling my finances and stage three, my goal, is independent living. I now know this is possible, others have lead the way.
