At Framework One its not all development and coding, we have a belief that its important to give back to our local community which is what we did when we headed to Enozipho Creche to build the kids and staff their own vegetable garden. Read below to find out more about this. On Wednesday 26 February 2014 a small team from software development company Framework One joined representatives from non-profit organisation SALT (Sharing Abundant Life Together). The goal: to build a vegetable garden for the kids at Enozipho Creche in Joe Slovo informal settlement in Milnerton. Enozipho Creche looks after young pre-school kids from the surrounding area. As a small facility in one of Cape Town’s poorest neighbourhoods, Enozipho depends heavily on donations and the goodwill of the local community. Charity organisation SALT has been involved with Enozipho for a number of years. Framework One’s involvement with Enozipho was established through some of its staff being involved in SALT’s Finishing Strong initiative, a mentorship programme for talented high-school learners from disadvantaged backgrounds. On the morning of 26 February, a small team from Framework One headed to Enozipho Creche to start construction on what would become an oasis for the kids. While some of the team were busy planting the assortment of herbs and vegetables, the rest spent time painting the wooden plant boxes and old tractor tyres that would form the basis of the garden. Enozipho Creche school principle Lilian Dikana said the school has enjoyed donations from a number of people and organisations, which helped in past to paint the inside of the creche, install a wooden jungle gym and put up a fence to keep the kids safe. “I was praying for a little garden for the kids for a while now. This is such a godsend.” Much of the charitable work done at Enozipho is initiated and managed by SALT. The organisation, led by Pauline de Klerk, pilots a number of charity projects in the Cape Town area. They are always looking for donors, volunteers and mentors.
