At GOProud, we dont often get the chance to talk about the importance of trans-rights. We feel the fight for freedom must be comprehensive. Its imperative to include a community who is more often misunderstood, discriminated against and whose members span across all factions of the LGBT. Transgender individuals can be straight, gay, lesbian or bi. It is incumbent upon us in the gay community to educate each other on the uniqueness of trans issues, and apply that understanding to our daily fight for freedom. That is why, we think there should have been more careful selection in choosing who would be the spokesperson for the trans-community in regard to San Franciscos Pride parade. While many of us sympathize with the difficulties Chelsea Manning faced as a transgender individual, there must be someone out there who could better represent the community -while not being previously convicted of treason. We feel the trans community deserves better representation. Even within our organization we have a number of excellent candidates.
