At McKallies Home we realize how important it is to know and understand the local people and their culture in order to assist them.. We must also take the time to know their needs, abilities and limitations so as to provide aide without causing furthering dependence on it. For some it may be assistance getting a small business going while for others its not so easy and a different approach has to be taken. The ladies pictured here are sisters. They are both mentally challenged and have 4 children between them in our school.. The boy pictured in the green shirt didnt start kindergarten until almost 9 years old because his job was to fetch firewood from the forest to sell each day. These ladies and their children barely survive! Today these sisters received maize flour and other basic supplies for survival. They participate in our womens ministry program, they also take turns with other ladies watering our trees for a small amount of money. We do our best to help educate them as needs arise. These ladies know we are here not only for life sustaining assistance but as friends who really care! And the good news is the young boy has not missed a day of school since he started with us and hes progressing nicely!
