At a sharing session for future counsellors who may have lgbt clients Part 2: Q: what is the greatest difficulty you face after you came out publicly? A: The greatest difficulty is judgement. Not the judgement others give me - those I can handle well - but the judgement I gave others. As an openly gay man, I have to catch myself not judging those who are closeted. Where is their courage? Why arent they wearing pink and going Pink Dot? As a gay man, I must catch myself judging the more effeminate and the transgenders: why cant they be more straight-acting like me? As a bearish gay man, I must catch myself when I judge the twinks. And since I prefer Asians, I must catch myself judging the Sarong Party Boys. I must catch myself, and teach myself to respect those different from me, because thats exactly what I am asking others to do for me.
