At approximately 0130am this morning (Boxing Day) Swansea Firefighters responded along with the local Rural Fire service to reports of a house alight in Nords Wharf. On arrival crews liaised with on scene RFS members who were already bringing a fire under control that had started on the front porch and spread to the upstairs verandah as well as a nearby bedroom. Swansea firefighters entered the house wearing breathing apparatus alongside RFS crews and determined the fire was burning underneath the floor of an upstairs bedroom, crews worked to remove the flooring and using a thermal imaging camera (TIC) to identify hot spots, ensured that any potential for further spread was contained. The property was ventilated using a positive pressure fan and fire damage was contained to a minimum. Both services worked very well to control and contain the fire which could have ended with a much more tragic result. We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to stay vigilant of fires in your home, particularly throughout the festive season, ensure you have working smoke alarms and have a home escape plan in place. Stay safe.
