At around 5:45a my train full of slumbering suburban strangers was alerted we had arrived at Harlem-125th and GCT was next. The steel wheels, screeching, awoke ME and I seated myself properly; then I stared across from the elevated platform to see the early morning darkness still draping the area. What struck and touched me very deeply... was what appeared to be a hospital (or senior home) with several patient rooms lit and elderly people in the fading scenes of their lives. The a.m.darkness was moving as we headed to midtown, but the desperate isolation and sedentary poses from the very, very old folks I witnessed in several portrait windows pushed me to view the future we have in front of us. Some have lost already, some have lost very recently. The race toward the future can be humbling, with or without the past trailing us. The upcoming new calendar year has me praying the nearing days of 2015 bring utmost comfort and serenity to our aging loved ones. Peacefully. Divinely. The Promise CANNOT be broken.
