At least one person has died from exhaustion after staying up for three consecutive nights watching the World Cup, it is reported. The 39-year-old man was found dead on Sunday in Shanghai, the Eastern Daily said. He died from a suspected stroke during the Uruguay and Costa Rica game, presumably brought on by exhaustion from staying up for three nights straight. The man had a history of high blood pressure but hadnt been suffering from any chronic illnesses, the paper reported. In a separate incident, a 25-year-old man was found dead at his computer on Saturday morning in the eastern city of Suzhou, Jiangsu province. He died from sheer exhaustion while watching the game between Chile and Australia on his computer, and he had also been awake for a number of consecutive days. Various news reports have reported that former professional footballer Li Mingqiang (51) died from a suspected heart attack while watching the Holland and Spain game. The former goalkeeper was watching the contest when he suddenly became ill, the Shenyang Evening News reported. Doctors have said that fans tend to become highly strung and over-excited during football games, which is potentially dangerous for individuals in poor physical health.
