At tavern this afternoon with licorice and cooper. Both were on leads and tired up where we were sitting. A little girl who was approx 18 months old toddles over - her parents are sitting about 50-60 metres away. She heads straight for cooper saying "hello". Cooper being 7-8 months old jumps up and down, barking and waging his tail. I jump up and hold him by his collar so he doesnt jump on the little girl. Finally the mother comes up and says "its ok we have a bigger dog than that that she plays with". I explain to the mum that although cooper isnt huge he is a kelpie puppy and very excitable still. She takes her toddler away saying "bye". This little girl not only did this once, but twice. Second time dad got her and a similar exchange happened. Now picture this: we were on a slope. If cooper had have jumped in excitement on the little girl causing her to roll down hill, hit her head or he scratched her, wwhat would the headline have been "parents fail to supervise child near dog" or "another dog harms toddler"???? Parents: PLEASE watch your children and teach them from an early age not to wander up to strange dogs (even if your dog is bigger and they play with it at home!) X
