At the Eid khutbah today, the imam had a powerful and provocative message. Essentially, he urged the people to be happy this day of Eid despite the pain in the world- because our brothers, sisters, and children perishing in Gaza are Martyrs reuniting with God. No one can take our happiness from us. He urged for resistance and celebration, and backed his statement with a Hadith about a great people who would spread Faith and Justice from the green sea (the Mediterranean) whos future existence made the Prophet smile. The Palestinians, he argued, are of those people. In the dua, he called for God to aid not only Gaza, but Sham, Iraq, Afghanistan, Burma, and every place. Perhaps Im being optimistic, but the global unity, here in an Arab country reflecting on the disaster at its own borders, gives me hope in the help of God.
